For those of us who can afford generators, it is an imperative item to
possess.  I purchased a generator following the four storms which
crisscrossed Florida four years ago and thankfully have not had to use it
yet.

We did lose electricity two years ago for eight hours one day and 12 hours
the following day, but thankfully it was an isolated problem and the
electric company was able to remedy it within a short amount of time.  Right
now I'm waiting on a general contractor to give me a quote on installing a
standby generator which can run on natural gas.  When I get that install I
will feel much better.
I'll be calling my uncles, who live in western Kentucky, to see if they have
power yet.
