I stretch mine out at least once a day or more......it just feels good to open them at times and bend back a bit on my thumbs to to exercise the muscles, I think this keeps my fingers from digging into my palms to tight----I have always done it and soon as I reease them they go back into curled possition. I didnt listen and stretched them out during transfers and such, so mine are are straight now with lil movement since Im a c7 its hard to say which is better, maybe curled are more functional for gripping certain things but I can do other things better with them open and they present more natural ron c7 ________________________________ From: Theo Kyparissis <[email protected]> To: Quad-list <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, January 21, 2013 10:07:12 AM Subject: RE: [QUAD-L] fingers.... Does anyone know why some Quads fingers are straight and flexible while others are curled and stiff? Theo From:Joan Anglin [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, January 21, 2013 17:53 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [QUAD-L] fingers.... It has never been any kind of option for me as my hands are flat and not curled up. We do range of motion and work the fingers everyday but other than getting partial feeling back in the right hand they haven’t changed at all in 22 years. I too never consider a cure for SCI for myself as I know that I am too old to be a viable candidate for any form of treatment which requires trials and cetera. At least this way I will never have to look for a seat anywhere I go! JHave a great day everyone. My hands are closed with thumbs out and on my left hand (I'm a lefty) my index finger is straighter so I have a little pinch when I twist my wrist up. With hands closed I can drive, write, ps2 with handles, rc cars, fish, hold stuff, plus lots more. If your thinking about a cure for later don't worry they will make your hands open again. I personally never think about a cure and could careless at this point. Mine have been locked closed like a fist since day on in the 1970s Nobody ever tried to straighten them out ever. It has been advantage to have them curled up and locked … I'm able to one doors very easily along with any other tasks. I was wondering what you guys do about your fingers… mine are becoming stiff and locked up… obviously I want to be able to use my fingers again someday and was wondering if you guys could give me some information on how you keep your fingers in good health… right now my caregivers stretches them twice a day but its only getting worse and I’m getting worried…
