I'm going to go on for as long as I can.  Hell ... I want to be in the Guinness
Book of Records as oldest living quad.  Doubt it will happen, but what the hey.

I guess I'm just usually an optimist.  I can't fathom giving up. Yes, I have
physical problems, but I just keep going.

I do all the tests, though this years colonoscopy will probably be the last.

I love life.  Even though I spend most of my time at home with my pc, music and
books (Hey, I live in western NY - who wants to go outside?), I love life.  The
only thing that could be better would be living in FL!!!

Meredith, look at the last posts by myself and Bobbie. That is exactly how we

I feel bad for all of you guys having all those complicated hospital stays.  It
is such a drag all the continuous health conditions that we Quads have to deal
with.  I myself have been pretty lucky so far, oh yeah I am dealing with 2
pressure sores that I don't have the patience to even be worried about. However
lately I know that there is something really wrong with my digestive system,
not the usual BS. I fear it is bad because I have experienced severe A.D.
lately and I am worried. On the other hand I just cannot worry about one more
thing. I'm getting too old for this and i don't care to do procedures and  such
to find bad news that I won't follow up on.

Do you all feel the same or different?

Meredith

Hi all,

Sorry to hear about your hospital experiences Ron. That was really rough to
come home in be by yourself right after surgery. I certainly hope that you are
shearing from dancing heal quickly..
I had a similar situation and I always wonder why our needs are still so
misunderstood in-hospitals. It is always a nightmare to have surgery, IV's for
a UTI, pneumonia, bowel blockages, wounds needing a wound VAC for two months
and then skin graft. One UTI caused a coma twice, intubation after several
surgeries. So many nurses have never suctioned.. They still don't understand
digitals and the bowel routine. I do believe I have had a member of near-death
experiences through hospitalizations. What are your opinions? I have never
heard of lorazepam. I'll have to look it up..

I did over a month in the hospital when my appendix burst in 2011. I had a 14
inch incision down my abdomen area and was hooked up to a wound vac. My bowells
shut down completely and I couldn't eat or drink for close to three weeks. Did
have minimal sips of water but had the tube in my nose and would throw up if i
cheated. Every other day my father would come in and between the two of us
straining, I would attempt to get onto the bowell chair. It was scary with no
results, pain, passing out on the chair but it had to be done and the nurses
werent going to do it. I normally straight cathe independently, but was hooked
up to a foley and that got plugged up and i went dysreflexic bad, and they
still didn't believe it was clogged til I went crazy.  The same hospital that
taught me how to live as a quad and about dysrelexia, suddenly didn't know what
i was referring to. I told the infectious disease doc to please look it up and
at least prescribe something
to lower my blood pressure during these times. It was crazy to be in bed and
deal with so much, lorezapam helped me from going crazy at night. I just kept
hoping I could  get out of there without any secondary complications, but I got
c-diff. Then everybody treated me like I had the plague..........wearing gowns
and masks. My family refused to wear them because it was pointless because they
were so involved with my care.........my gf at the time and father did about
everything to keep the nurses happy. Somehow i made it out of there and could
very slowly and dangerously get in bed and cathe myself. Dad went back to
second shift the day I went home and i had to survive from 2 to midnight alone.
I wasn't sure how fast or if I would fully recover. I wouldn't say Im as good
as b4 all that happenned , but Im good enough to make it . Gf broke up with me,
swim organization changed things so i couldn't go back, counselor
quit.......and I fell pretty hard
emotionally. Im still here though and with that there is hope.
