>What is the latest and/or recommended version of AOL that will run on a 68k >Mac, and where would I find it?
AOL 3.0 and 4.0 can both be installed on a 68k mac. AOL 3.0 is smaller and faster (of course) but 4.0 has more features and does a better job bringing up pictures and images while websurfing. You should ask your mother-in-law what version she was using on her old peecee - if she was using 4.0 she'd probably find the 3.0 format and features kind of unfamiliar. But beware - 4.0 runs alot slower on an olde mac than an olde peecee. I usually install both 3.0 and 4.0 on 68k macs - 3.0 for speed and 4.0 for features. Just install 3.0 first and then either install 4.0 from CD or press the UPGRADE NOW! botton. You'll find that both versions will work, and they'll even share address book and favorites lists automatically. >One problem though, when she tries to go on to her old hotmail >account, she is unable to get in because of a security certificate >error AOL offers no 68k-compatible version that will access secure accounts. I can't get to my credit union account on AOL 4.0 for 68k (but I can on 4.0 for ppc). I've used Netscape 4.08 (the only 68k version of Netscape that can access secure accounts) (configure Netscape to not load pictures or play animations and it won't run so darn slow). Of course that means you have to first go online on AOL (3.0 or 4.0, doesn't matter), then fire up Netscape and go to your secure site from there. What a pain. Of course, others will urge your mother-in-law to ditch AOL and use iCab or something, but not me .... Bruce (in Orlando) -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
