if I replaced the LC040 in my 610 with a full 040 should I find a heatsink
for it? it will be running all of the time and I would prefer not to damage
the chip, also, what heatsinks would I attempt to modify or attatch to this
chip?

On LC040s, this is readable no problem. On full 040s, Apple shipped them
all
with heatsinks, which usually obscure the letters at least in part, making
it
more difficult to read the designation.

However, if it has a heatsink, it's almost a sure thing that it's a full
040 -
the LCs didn't need one.
