wow...well im glad I found this out..

would it work fine to take any heat sink that was big enough and just
attatch it with thermal glue?

Yes.  You *need* the heatsink for the full 040 if you want it to keep
working
longer than a few hours.

You can usually find 040 heatsinks on eBay or Swaplist.
