Do you have any other working Mac equipment available to you, even for a
short time (such as in a Kinkos, for example)?

You can download a "network install disk" (I have not quite finished
figuring that part out, I have the file but it is 3 meg, I assume it can be
expanded on a Mac to a couple of disk images or something, as you mention,
as that is SOP in most explanations).

If they have a CD writer on location, one can also download and create the
cd for the 7.5.3, and also the 7.5.5 update disks. (Basically following the
instructions you already have, but using Kinkos' equipment to do the job,
for example, for a fee.)

I'm going through the same experience, but I bought a 9600 for a network
system so I'd have something to work with, and also a burner and old "Toast"
that will run on 7.5 so I can make disks. If you can wait a couple of weeks
or so until I get mine up, I can probably make bootable CD's supposedly.
I've gotten a lot of help from others, so it's only fair to help a little.
Others may also be able to help. 7.5.3 is available for download, so
"sharing" should not be a legal problem.

One problem: 7.5.3 is available disk by disk from someone (say friends), but
the downloadable one I have found is a full-sized disk image. There are
difficulties transporting across to the quadra. Anybody know about this?
(I'm shortly at the point of doing it in whole on the CD, so it is no longer
my problem, but I had difficulty in the beginning with PC's only.)

Does anybody know of a disk image of the INDIVIDUAL floppies of a floppy
based 7.5.3, as opposed to an image of the whole compressed install spread
on individual un-assembled floppy sized files?

By the way, everybody I have talked to seems to recommend updating to 7.5.5
once established on 7.5.3. It's 3 individual floppies to upgrade, also
downloadable.

Does anybody know about installing from the downloaded 7.5.3 but breaking it
up into individual floppies? The bin is broken up, but that produces a
mountable disk image. It is needed in combined format to actually do the
install -- not broken up at that time. Perhaps I missed something in my
trials?

---

ALSO what is the state of your PC hardware and Quadra as to CD's. You don't
mention. I bought external CD on E-bay for $20 including shipping, if you
don't have an internal. If you have a slot you could upgrade for less. Of
course that's about what the entire Quadra should cost these days.

ALSO this may not matter. You HAVE an operating Mac, just you can't read any
text on the screen. But Mac is very visual, so that should not be necessary!
You can feed the PC generated copies and possibly assemble the disk image on
the Quadra itself. It may be possible to install using your working Japanese
version. But you apparently need to install from an external disk, which is
why the CD is useful.

---

I'll be interested in other's responses, since I'm going through just about
exactly the same situation with an IIci and Quadra 630 and 610. I've about
the same experience except for a month with a little time on the side to
play with the Mac parts, and about the same equipment except for now I have
a later Mac and burner now at my disposal to make disks (presuming they
work). But my problems were initially just about exactly the same. If burner
fails to come up, I will be in same boat.
