Blimey, they don’t like the sneaky email approach either!

I just called, first 2 calls the line went dead, the 3rd I was told it was trade only and they put the phone down Onto the next I think, but thanks! _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of susanandmartinscott Sent: 22 October 2008 09:29 To: [email protected] Subject: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 engine options Why not get a remanufactured cvh from wealdstone engineering? - they supplied remanufactured engines to teh Ford dealer network. Wealdstone wouldn't supply directly to me when they were supplying to Ford, but you can buy direct from them now, with delivery to your door. ----- Original Message ----- From: Matthew <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:00 PM Subject: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 engine options Blackbird engine, I'd say no. You have to really rev bike engines to get decent torque figures, and it only gets to 90.4 ft/lbs anyway, so not all that good in a 900 KG car. You need to keep them revving high so you get poor fuel economy, although that might not be a concern. I assume you'd use the bike gear box, which has no reverse gear, so you need to add one of those unless you fancy pushing it instead. The bike boys out in Ireland this year seemed to find it a pain in 400KG cars My personal dealings with Specialised Engines would recommend you *not* to go there. How about talking to Mike Tanski? He's the guy at Ferriday engineering. Seems a genuine and nice enough guy. Quite a few people have got CVH engines from him. How about a nice 1.8 CVH turbo? Take a look at his website here :- http://www.ferriday.co.uk/performance/cvh.shtml Out of interest what was your breather setup? I had a few troubles with the Zetec Turbo blowing oil out at first until I modified the breathers for the turbo application. Matthew _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Andy Haworth Sent: 21 October 2008 19:17 To: [email protected] Subject: [Quantum Owners] 2+2 engine options I'm at a crossroads with the 2+2 at the moment. I'd done a FRST conversion and blew the oil cap off a couple of times after cleaning the breathers. A compression test wasnt possible as there was a spark plug cross threaded So that led me to getting a head reconditioned, and if a new head was going on, may as well get a new (rebuilt) CVH block too as the rings were suspect. After skimming the new block, rebuilding it, finding the crank was stiff, having that reground and everything built back up again we then find out the block's cracked. So, I'm hoping the old engine hasnt been rebored, that we can do that to +.5mm, and fit all the "new" stuff into the old block, refit to the car and away we go. If the old engine has been rebored, there's not a lot around for +1mm pistons and I'd need to start thinking about something else. I dont really want to go full Zetec (too much chopping and the subframes are expensive). Not keen on an ebay CVH and not really having the £2k kicking around to give to Specialised Engines has left me in a bit of a predicament. No-one locally seems to want to get involved in a ZVH turbo even if everything's provided. In the middle of the conversation, one of the engine guys casually dropped in that he'd be able to spec an 1100 Blackbird engine as an option. I'd have thought a 2+2 is a bit heavy for this - anyone considered it a bit more seriously than my fag packet calculations? TIA Andy <BR _____ No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG.
