The XR2 single piece shaft should fit straight on with it's matching joints (not the same as the 1.4).
As Matthew says they do reduce torque steer.

Is this a joint with 6 or 8 bolts holding it together ?, if so the bearing carrier unbolts from the rest of the shaft and you should be able to get a new pattern one from a motor factors.

The cv joint half way along is very broken, there is a hole in the
bearing carrier. I am having a devil of a job trying to source a
replacement. Will try ringing heritage in the morning to see if they
have one but otherwise I may have no choice.

That's the equal length drive shaft which should cut down torque steer. Why
would you want to change it?

My 2+2 currently has the offside driveshaft with a bearing and cv
joint about half way along. I have seen mention on the web of changing
this for the straight one. Is this a straightforward swap? The engine
is the 1.4 cvh with a 5 speed box.
