Hi Mark,
I'm trying to figure out which bit you mean.
There is the inner part of the joint with the 6 or so steel balls in a cage and then the outer ring that has the grooves in that i presumed is what is damaged on yours.
The the rubber boot and the end cover of the joint that holds the boot on.
Is this end cover the part that is damaged on yours ?

It just gets worse. Having driven to Newbury to collect the new cv joint, I found that in the kit they supply the cv joint and the rubber part of the boot. The metal part that goes between these is not supplied. What is really frustrating is it is actually this bit that is badly damaged on my car!! Further investigation reveals that this part is also not supplied with the boot kit and no-one knows where to source it from. An hour of looking through the books brought forth a revelation... a similar part is supplied in a boot kit for one of the vw range. We will see shortly if this is going to work. Update... Just had the call from Partco, apparently the metal part of the boot is close enough to be useable so here we go on another 60 mile round trip. I will let you know more details upon my return.

I had a long chat with Darren at Inchcape ford in Bracknell. He had to make a couple of calls but the upshot of it was that ford are no longer supporting the mkII fiesta. They have a number of parts at their clearance warehouse but it would appear that once they run out it is pattern parts only. He did, however, give me the ford part number which I was able to crosscheck with the part I ordered from Partco in Newbury. The guys there couldn't have been more helpful and really knew their stuff. Much Impressed.

What did ford say?
