After much delay I have found my cambelt was shredded after all around
the lower wheel. When it happened, no great noise, or any signs of
damage.
I am still intending to go for a newer engine as per last post and
Stoneleigh is the best place to get more info, so my thought is....
can I get the 1.6 pinto running again to get me there.

All advice welcome, re likely damage, I have never stripped an engine,
played with valves etc so full detail would be appreciated.

At the moment, everything seems to turn, but how freely should this
happen - bottom end is quite easy, water pump and distribution wheel
very easily, the top end turns, but a bit stiff - is this simply the
resistance of the springs?

What other checks can I do ideally without taking the head off ?

What is the general consensus from those with experience? give it a
go / take the hit move on.

Thanks

Andrew
