When the snow tyres get down to under 4mm, they're not much better in
snow than summer tyres; you may as well enjoy the extra grip for a
couple of thousand spring miles...

I've also used the snow socks, but just to get moving; worked, but
tricky to fit if you can't move the car at all (in my case the back
end turned out to be frozen under six inches of ice, straight through
the wheels...)
