To Xtreme owners...
I've had a fuel smell recently when the tank is reasonably full and
going around a left hand bend. I have taken the rear tub off to see
what the issue was, as I couldn't see where it was coming from, but I
suspected it was seeping past the grommet between the plastic filler
neck and the tank when the fuel sloshes up the filler neck. I had a
new one ready just in case, and sure enough it was the culprit. The
reason is a concern though:

On the Sierra the grommet is into a plastic tank which is about 4mm
thick. The Xtreme tank is 1mm thick stainless steel, and the reduced
contact area has caused the tank to act like a blade on the rubber,
shearing into it and preventing it sealing any more. This is in only
6 years, so if you get a fuel smell under similar circumstances I
would recommend looking here, and changing out the seal every 5 years
as a matter of safety. Thankfully there isn't much to ignite all the
fuel vapour down there, but it's a bit of a worry nonetheless.

Swapped out the diff today as well (in under 2 hours, good going
huh?), so hoping for a quieter driveline when up and running again
tomorrow.

Regards all

Doug
