Also whether its water or air the radiator has to
do the same amount of work as an intercooler and take the same amount
of heat away to get the same cooling ie same size rad as intercooler,
Actually, it doesn't seem to work like that.
The chargecooler also has the reserve of all the water in the system as a
buffer.
As long as you aren't on full boost continuously (pretty much impossible)
then a much smaller charge cooler radiator can keep the water in the system
cold enough.
My 2+2 has a chargecooler rad in it the same size as the original Escort RS
Turbo intercooler and it handles the 260bhp, even on a track day.
There is also the advantage that you only have to get 2 10mm or so diameter
water hoses to a chargercooler rad rather than a couple of huge intake
hoses.
So it's much easier to keep the intake path short and free flowing.
