But, wasn't yours a 2+2, hence Mk2 Fiesta instruments which expect
4 pulses per engine rev, just as the Zetec ecu puts out.
It was the distributorless CVH engines (Mk3 Fiesta, Mk5 Escort)
that for some reason Ford decided to connect the rev counter to one
of the coil wires which since there are 2 coils only gives 2 pulse
per rev.
They changed the CVH rev counters to match this.
Probably was done as the late carb'd CVH's with the distributorless
ignition didn't have a rev output from the ignition only ecu.
Then they carried that system onto the CVH injection.
When they did the Zetec they went back to normal but with a
dedicated ouput from the ECU, as this wasn't on a coil connection
they could also do away with the suppressor.

I am now confused, when I did the transplant I used the cvh clocks
with the zetec ecu, All I did was connect the output from the ecu
to the old coil wire that fed the rev counter. This gives me the
rev readings that I would expect, idle at just below 1000 etc.
Could this be something that varies with the ecu type?

The CVH engine with the distributorless ignition drove the rev
counter from one of the 2 coils wires..
The Zetec runs it from a dedicated output from the ECU, if you
connect that to the CVH rev counter it will show twice the revs.
If you are still using the CVH main wiring and instrument cluster
then you can switch the rev counter connection back to one of the
zetec coil connections and it will work fine (keep the CVH
suppressor in circuit).
What combination of wiring looms do you have now ?
