Hi Andrew,
Definitely a good idea to join the club.
I too have an H4 based on a '95 Fiesta, running a 1600 zetec....the running
gear came from a Mk 3 Si however. My understanding is that your information
(standard suspension on the front, 1.1 rear) is correct...although it does
sound as if someone has played about with the ride height on yours at some
time.
On the question of wheels and tyres, mine had 195 55 15 tyres on 6 x 15" wheels
when I bought it...and they rubbed on the wheel arches at anything close to
full lock (and with my drive, use of full lock is somewhat unavoidable). The
car also used more petrol than I thought it should. I considered other profiles
and sizes, but I couldn't see how 6" width wheels would ever fit without
spacers...and once the wheel-hub spacing starts to change, what does that do
for the steering...not to mention rubbing on the other edge...ie the wing? In
the end I have opted for a set of 165 60 14 tyres on 5 x 14" wheels. NO
RUBBING. The car remains as "chuckable" as ever...I fancy it handles better in
the wet than it did with the big wheels....and the fuel economy, while still
not as good as I'd hoped,  is better.
Best wishes...I hope you enjoy the car as much as you should!!!
Bill Jackson

Subject: [Quantum Owners] Quantum H4 Suspension/Wheels/Tyres

Hi I have recently purchased an H4 and will shortly be joining the
owners club.

My question concerns suspension wheels and tyres.

The car has a 1.6 zetec engine and is based on a 1995 Fiesta so guess
this is a Fiesta Mk3.5 but I am not sure.

The tyre size is 16/215/40 which just seems too wide for the car, they
are virtually projecting beyond the wheel arches and the rears rub the
arches over bumps.

I don't know what the suspension set is but the front ride height
seems on the high side and the rear is a bit low and the rear
suspension seems firm to say the least! In fact it really is spoiling
the car on normal roads, on the plus side it corners like a go-kart.

I have read that the 'factory set up' was standard 1.6 Fiesta
suspension on the front and 1.1 on the rear, I have do to something to
improve the suspension as a matter of priority,I was thinking about
just buying some standard 1.1 springs/shocks for the rear and taking
it from there.

There are also a fair number of alternative suspension manufacturers
such a spax, koni etc. who sell lower/stiffer/adjustable alternatives
and I don't know if this would be better?

Also any guidance on wheel sizes/offsets and tyre sizes would be very
much appreciated.
