I’ve had this on my 2+2 and on a couple of Mk2 and Mk3 Fiestas and Mondeos.
I put it down to poor quality brake discs, i notice that the worst ones had the
vents in the middle of the disc cast closer to one side than the other, i
suspect this causes them to heat up unevenly and warp.
And the roads i was driving on to/from work. lots of 1-2 miles stretches of
dual carriageway with roundabouts in between.
I’ve not had the problem recently.

I’m not sure i agree with his theory, if the calliper mounting wasn’t quite
parallel to the disc then the pads would just wear at a slight angle to
compensate.
As long as the calliper is sliding ok it should handle any slight misalignment.

Now, if the front face of the hub wasn’t machined parallel to the bearings then
the disc would wobble as it rotated and i guess that could cause one section of
the disc to get hotter than the other.
But i would expect some amount of vibration even on new discs.

Some of the 1.0 and 1.1L had smaller bearings so stick to a 1.4 or 1.6 XR2 and
you should be ok.
Watch out for s/h ones by mail order as often the inner bearing can spin on the
hub and wear it.

Subject: [Quantum Owners] MK2 front hub reqd.

Having been plagued by brake discs constantly warping on my 2+2 my local
mechanic has spent a lot of time investigating and measuring various
components. As callipers, pads and discs have been replaced and noting that the
offside disc appears to be the one which is warping he has suggested I source a
front offside hub assembly. He suggests that the disc/hub may not be entirely
parallel to the calliper and therefore the disk is being forced out of
alignment.

Question one: Are all the MK2 hubs the same?. Mine is 1.4S based but I can’t
see any reference anywhere to there being any difference between the various
models. No joy so far in any scrappies over here.

Question two: Does anyone have one to sell or know where I could get one?.
(The logistics of getting it to Dublin can be sorted later)
