Have you still got the car ? My experience with 3rd party fault accidents is that the 3rd party insurance company will normally let you keep your car even if they have written it off. Sometimes they will ask for the scrap value of the car but last time with my 205 GTI they didn’t ask for that, they even paid out for the recovery of the written off car from the recovery yard to my house. You can then get it repaired yourself, or if it’s not too bad then just leave it. Or even if it was too bad to be put back on the road (the 205 shell was twisted) you can break it and sell all the undamaged parts on ebay.
Unless you have to (no where to put it) i would never leave a accident damaged car with an insurance company or at the recovery yard. With the 205 it was recovered by recovery company called by the police (it was mid evening) but i paid them to take it to my house the next day. I claimed all the recovery costs back from the 3rd party. All of the above was claimed directly from the 3rd party, i didn’t go through my insurance company as i only had 3rd party insurance on the 205. Cost – Less than £ 100. This fixed ALL the overheating problems. This was all Very simple stuff to do. I use my Saloon everyday as it’s my only car doing about 12,000 miles a year.
