Well i'll be, that caught me out didn't it.
Is this something they sneaked onto the V5C recently, mine are all the
same age from when i moved house 4 or 5 years ago.
A old V5 does have the tick box i was thinking of for saying you have
scrapped the car yourself.
This could be interesting, the Mondeo i scrapped recently has gone, the
body to the local scrap metal company (not a ATF).
Time for a nice letter to the DVLA, or just keep it sorned........

When I looked into scrapping the donor for my Beauford I found that
DVLA would only accept that a vehicle was scrapped if this was done by
an approved scrapper who then provided the appropriate certificate –
so I sold the shell to someone who wanted the panels and let them deal
with the nitty gritty! Have things changed from 2010?

Have you still got the car ?
My experience with 3rd party fault accidents is that the 3rd party
insurance company will normally let you keep your car even if they
have written it off.
Sometimes they will ask for the scrap value of the car but last time
with my 205 GTI they didn’t ask for that, they even paid out for the
recovery of the written off car from the recovery yard to my house.
You can then get it repaired yourself, or if it’s not too bad then
just leave it.
Or even if it was too bad to be put back on the road (the 205 shell
was twisted) you can break it and sell all the undamaged parts on ebay.
Unless you have to (no where to put it) i would never leave a accident
damaged car with an insurance company or at the recovery yard.
With the 205 it was recovered by recovery company called by the police
(it was mid evening) but i paid them to take it to my house the next day.
I claimed all the recovery costs back from the 3rd party.
All of the above was claimed directly from the 3rd party, i didn’t go
through my insurance company as i only had 3rd party insurance on the 205.

In my Very recent experience (as my cvh overheated alot aswell) it was
a combination of;
Sticky thermostat
Fan switch
Fan switch plug (go for a standard fan switch with blade connectors to
the loom, so cut off the Ford plastic thing)
Notchy knackered fan (got a new 12” one from Car Building Solutions)
Fan Earth wire was dodgy, so I ran a new one direct to the battery.
Cost – Less than £ 100.
This fixed ALL the overheating problems.
This was all Very simple stuff to do.
I use my Saloon everyday as it’s my only car doing about 12,000 miles
a year.
Where in the country are you? Maybe someone near can help?
