Jim That's really helpful, thanks. I've since been told that the diagnostics port, if it has one, is not part of the ECU itself but separate and can be located just about anywhere. Your comments re the ECU being compatible are really interesting. I guess it raises the question as to what the best solution is. I'm guessing finding an appropriate 2L ECU is not as simple as it sounds. But step 1 is finding out what is in there! Regards Julian Coleman City Audio Services

Then, in the engine bay undo the M10 bolt in the centre of the big connector and the ecu will drop down into the car. The 2.0 won’t run very well with a 1.6ecu as the 2.0 has a different MAF and injector size. But that’s the next step , first find out what the ecu is, you are looking for a 4 letter code that usually spells a word. I have found the unit, up behind the glove box where it's not too easy to get at and I cannot see any labels. I need some practical advice as to how to gain access - I can't actually see what is going on up there. I think I can probably loosen the clamp bolt. But what happens if I do? Would the unit drop out with its wiring attached? Where would the diagnostic port be? Any other info would be gratefully received.
