I don't know that this is possible using the Official QC Plugin
API, since it lacks the ability to create new port types (we work
around this constraint by not using it, but that comes with its own
set of pros and cons.) Without this ability, there probably will
not be any kind of routable 3D Object from an Official API plugin.
Each model will be bound to its renderer patch, and there only. It
can't interact with particle systems or other models (other than
overwriting the depth buffer), which makes it fairly limited.
Maybe this restriction will be lifted in a future API version, but
I'm not holding my breath. (that phrase will haunt me in the
future :)
using the unofficial API has never stopped Kineme ;). You already
have created new "texture" and "grid" data types.
Could the "grid" structure in the gltools 0.4 plugin be extended into
a generic 3d mesh data type which all the loaders could support?
