I believe, something like this could be reliably determined only by experiment. but 16 GB DDR3 SO-DIMMs are very expensive - especially now, when the RAM prices hiked and 4 GB of DDR3 now costs like 8 GB :P Currently it makes much more sense to get extra coreboot supported hardware (e.g. some spare G505S laptops) rather than more RAM...
Do you live in a country with favorable customer laws?
