I did talk to him about doing authenticated connections and there are
some new features in the new appliance.  And of course the code and
designs are open so people could run with it.

I think the only real issue is no on-board packet filter so it can't
block connections.

The previous version let you monitor the GPS data stream and I monitor
time performance indirectly e.g. using ntpdate. Since it doesn't
actually run NTP typical NTP status and management is irrelevant.
