Thank you  Ben, and everyone for your thoughts on the tempo.  It makes sense
now.  After disabling 131, it works as I wanted it too.  I looked at the
help file and control 131 was not listed from what I could tell.  It looks
like this midi thing can get quite complicated.  I am going to have to pick
my areas to learn, carefully.  Thanks again.

If I were in this situation, i'd try looking at the begining of the
tracks in the list editor to make sure that the author of the midi
hadn't put any tempo changes in.
Whilst control t will have changed the tempo, tempo changes that are
included in the midi will overide the changes you made.
For ease of use in the future, I suggest that you deleet said tempo
event instead of changing it to the desired tempo as this will only
trip you up when you come to work with it again.
