Hi everyone,

I am your fellow list moderator. This is a reminder that posts in this forum
should be kept clearly relevant and of broad value to the community of
phylogenetics in R.

This applies especially to posts from entities offering training courses and
resources.

I recognize that modern data analytics covers a lot of ground, and thus there
may be education or training resources that don’t necessarily have
phylogenetics and R in their title. However, the onus is on the posting entity
to make it clear in their description how the course or other resource is
specifically relevant and of value for researchers doing phylogenetics in R.

If anyone is considering advertising a training resource but isn’t sure whether
it’s in scope or not, contact me (r-sig-phylo-ow...@r-project.org
<mailto:r-sig-phylo-ow...@r-project.org>) first.

Second, this list was conceived as and remains primarily a list for community
discussion and knowledge exchange. Training is a perennial community need, and
therefore relevant and valuable training course announcements were subsequently
considered in scope. However, more recently course announcements have started
to become the primary source of traffic:

If this continues, it runs a high risk of permanently altering the nature of
this community list. I am therefore asking all course providers to limit and
package their announcements such that (1) posts from any entity are at a
frequency of no higher than twice a month, and (2) for any particular course,
only *1* announcement is posted, i.e., no “last chance” or other follow-ups.
Violators will be moderated, and repeat offenders will be removed.

This being a community list, I’m open to and much appreciate feedback. For any
feedback regarding rules for moderation, please consider that (1) I have been
moderating this list for >10 years in my spare time; (2) any rules have to be
easily enforceable (I believe that unenforced or inconsistently enforced rules
are worse than no rules).

Cheers,
