Perhaps this is because of the historical injustice that blacks suffered at the hands of whites… the old power imbalance. Indeed, the factors are complex. I am starting to realize that I am out of touch. I think I understand the racial profiling that lead to the black lives matter movement; which in turn, led to the reverse profiling of white cops as racist. Labels are flying back and forth, but I don’t see the labels used in everyday my life. The election results surprised me. Clearly there is much more anger than I am personally seeimg, thus my need to reset what I thought I knew. Let's start by admitting both sides of the problem. The uglier truth is that white elites are just as contemptuous of working class whites (especially males) as white racists are of blacks. We can't keep going by excusing one side while condemning the other. We need to both understand and engage with the ugliness on both sides. Even labels like "racist" may be oversimplifications that cause more problems than they solve...
