Ernie, You are right about the skeleton out of the closet. I had no idea how big the skeleton was. I guess I live in a naïve and idealistic bubble with more civil (not insulting) discourse and more respect for other tolerant ethnic and religious groups. I didn’t pretend that the national indifference about morality didn’t matter; rather, I had no clue about the depth of the problem. The voters told me. I consider it a rude awakening.
I am old enough to remember seeing "coloreds only" drinking fountains. I thought we, as a country, had come much further than we have. My sister is a professor at a state university in Michigan. Last week, a black female colleague was walking across a parking lot on campus when she was charged by a man in a vehicle. She avoided being hit. As the charging vehicle passed, the man shouted, "Get out of the way nigger, this is Trump's America now!" The woman was so shaken by the incident that she had to cancel her classes the next day. I guess Trump is making America great again, in his image. Jeff Sessions as attorney general... I think we can look forward to other parking lot incidents. The skeleton is embarrassing to me now that I see it. I agree, let's find a way to repent. Quickly. To me, this is a bit like being embarrassed that the family skeleton is out of the closet. The problems were there all along, but we pretended they didn't matter until they became public. The real shame is that we have become so morally inept as a church. Trump (and Hilary) be God's judgement on us. Let's find a way to repent quickly, lest God give us something worse in 2020...
