To install plugins:
1. Open the Squeezebox Server web interface (reached by going to
http://localhost:9000 with a web browser)
2. Click on "Settings" link at the bottom right corner
3. Select "Plugins" tab
4. Select which plugin you like to install. By default you will only
see recommended plugins but there is a checkbox at the bottom called
"Show all 3rd party plugins" that will show all plugins.

To install applets:
1. Goto the Radio and start navigating with knob
2. Enter the menu Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer
3. You will here see a list of available applets. There will be more
applets in this list if you have checked the "Show all third party
plugins" checkbox in the server mentioned above.
4. If you are using the 7.4.1 server, you will need to select each
applet you like to install by entering it and selecting it and then
selecting "Install". To actually install all selected applet you go back
up to the "Applet Installer" menu and selects the "Install/Remove"
option.

Besides this there are a few applets/plugins which requires you to
enter a repository url manually in the plugins tab in the server in the
"Additional Repositories" field. There is at least one weather applet,
one album cover slideshow applet that has to be installed this way.

The difference between applets and plugins is where they are installed,
applets are installed on the Radio itself while plugins are installed in
the local Squeezebox Server. If you are using mysqueezebox.com you will
only be able to use third party applets, not plugins.

There is no need to manually copy any applets/plugins files if you have
a local Squeezebox Server. All applets can be installed through the
"Applet Installer" menu on the Radio and all plugins can be installed
through the Plugins tab in the Squeezebox Server web interface. In
previous releases you were required to copy files manually but this is
no longer needed, this is also why some information on the wiki still
indicates that you will need to copy files so just ignore this.

Now, if you are just looking for a way to install your own
wallpaper/background, there is a "Customize Controller" plugin already
installed which settings page you will reach through the Plugins tab in
the server web interface.

If you like to design your own clock there is the Custom Clock applet
together with the Custom Clock Helper plugin that makes this possible
without any programming.

If you have some programming skills or want to learn you can also
develop your own applet, there aren't a lot of information available
regarding this, but at least some can be found here:
