Interesting point on the alarm. Since the Radio is pretty optimal as an alarm clock and it can have a battery you'd think the battery should also function as a reliable backup for power outages (backup alarm tone of course).
If it powers down all of the way and can't do this - that would be another strike against the unit for not having obvious functionality. As others have noted all sorts of small units can stay alive for days on batteries with at least intermittent wifi access and can of course sound alarms.
