Who's speculating?

Fact #1; their own FAQ says the radio will power down when not in use
but on battery for 30 minutes.

Fact #2; set an alarm on your radio, wait a little to make sure the
server gets the settings, power down the radio (I don't mean powered
down to the clock, I mean powered down to the good bye screen so the
display is blank). wait until the appointed time and check the radio,
did on anything happen? nope.

Poor design and implementation of the entire alarm system on the radio.
I really can't believe they had any notion that people would want to use
it with the battery as a full backup wake-up radio. Not to mention the
fact that we can't even get batteries in Canada, never mind even a
waiting list like my friends to the south.
