Have a look at 'this' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86962) thread for current issues with the 7.5.4 scanner.
I think somewhere in the settings you may be able to alter the power on behaviour so that it automatically resumes play. Not sure though. Funny you should mention Marconi.
