So, I suggest that you:
1) Reset your router to factory defaults.
2) 'Upgrade the firmware'
(http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2595) to the
'newest version'
(http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/803).
3) Choose a wireless network name and password of your liking, and
WPA2_PSK encryption (optionally WPA_PSK if WPA2 isn't available).
4) See to that the "Max associated setting" (if it exists) is greater
than your number of wireless clients.
5) Try it. If it works better, you're good! If not, reset it to factory
defaults again, trash it/sell it, and buy yourself a new router for
christmas.
