I have owned a Boom for a while but only using it for internet radio via
MySB.com. Decided now that I'm going to run a NAS in the home and get a
touch. I just purchased a second hand Touch for 140 euros.

But it is dawning on me that I can better plan for the future. Touches
are on sale, they cost as little as 219 euro now.

I haven't owned a smartphone or tablet yet. But I just have this feeling
that owning a device that is part of the interior (like a clock on top
of a cabinet) is the only thing I really want. Smartphone control is all
fine, but having a device that you can depend on at all times seems much
more 'zen' and more pleasant in terms of stability of the environment.
Not sure how to explain.

I think I will order two more Touches. I feel that this platform will
continue to see development from 3rd parties. This is not the end, I
sense stability. We might see firmware updates for existing hardware.
Perhaps even a company that takes on hardware development. I don't
know.

I just know that I know of no other device like the Touch and if
Logitech kills this platform, chances are there will never -BE- another
device like the Touch. There are plenty of expensive streamers that
stack on top of your hifi set, there is AirPort Express (for some reason
it is the only solution like that - is Apple swinging its legal arm
here?), there is Bluetooth, there is DLNA which is not completely
implemented as to allow gapless playback, there is Sonos which doesn't
have a Touch-like device, and there are products like Streamium from
Philips, which are only standalone products or complete systems.

If this is the kind of solution I want - and I'm pretty sure it is - I
better stock up on those devices while I can. Which is now.
