First I'd like to say thank you to everyone for all the information in this thread.
So, I went and tried the upgrade since I use my device for internet radio 90% and for streaming my own music 10% of the time. Nothing else, no fancy features or apps. Well, I lasted about 15 minutes. This is a short summary of my experience. * At first I was pleased to find a few nice new features like being able to change the screen saver to a clock while playing without any modifications. * Then I noticed that I could not hide menu items or change menu orders any more. Ok, I could live without that. * Added my alarms through the uesmartradio site. Although I could not find a way to add my old favorites through the site, so I had to do it on the radio. Only 5 favorites, so it wasn't so bad. If I had 20 or more, it would have been a hassle. So far, some advantages, some disadvantages. Up to this point I would have gladly stayed with the new firmware. * Installed the UE Music Library to be able to stream. I was hoping so much for a new slim and lightweight program. But no, this is seemingly based on the same code as Logitech Media Server. Complete with the same slow start up. Oh well. * After the library scan: How can I stream my music? The uesmartradio site provides nothing at all. The software itself neither it seems. So to summarize: The software is the same bloated thing but stripped of its most useful feature, the "local" (browser based) interface. * So now I'm left with using the cumbersome radio interface to manage my playlist when I want to stream. This is not an option for me. * Fortunately the downgrade to the old firmware worked. As a final action before the downgrade I checked my scanned library out of interest if an old problem of the library scanner was at least fixed in the new software: No, it still doesn't show music files with Chinese or Japanese characters in the file name.
