Thank you for your reply. Of course you are correct and I was aware that
they seemed to push their smartphone app with this new software. I just
personally do not want to use it. Honestly speaking, it just boggled my
mind how they kept the same software base for the streaming server and
just stripped the control interface feature. So to me personally they
gave no benefit at all but removed a major feature at the same time.
Sorry if it seems unwarranted, I just felt the need to share this
experience because I could not really understand their reasoning there.
I may have overreacted, but maybe I can save someone else the time with
this experience.
A little follow-up about the firmware downgrade:
After the downgrade it was impossible to play internet radio stations on
my device ("connection reset"). The device in my mysqueezebox-site
account says "Your Squeezebox Radio has been updated to UE Smart Radio
and will no longer work with this Web site.", so any control via the
site was impossible. Local streaming worked, but no internet radio. I
reinstalled the Squeezebox firmware 4 times before giving up.
I did a factory reset and set up my radio from scratch. Now internet
radio is possible again, fortunately. However the mysqueezebox-site
still says "Your Squeezebox Radio has been updated to UE Smart Radio and
will no longer work with this Web site.". I can control my radio via the
local server though and internet radio works again, so I'm content with
that. What a scary experience.
So if anyone else experiences issues after downgrading: Try a factory
reset.
