Yes, it just installs over top of the previous version. You shouldn't lose anything. Occasionally, when there's a change to the database structure, it will require a full library rescan following an install, but that won't be the case going from 7.7 to 7.8. Using one of the available apps, you could also use an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or an Android smartphone or tablet.
