The Cyanogenmod url looks promising. Thanks for that. I'll investigate building the ar6000 driver module from that source. Since it's loaded at boot time, we can replace the kernel module to try it without the need to flash a new firmware and a factory reset will revert the module to the stock version if things go badly.
