No, I haven't played with wmiconfig.  When the wifi drops out on my
radio, I just plug in the ethernet port to a wireless bridge I leave
under the table, reconfig the network to use ethernet and then I forget
about it for a few weeks, or until I go to take the radio outside and
realize the ethernet cable is still plugged in.

Yes please post your investigations, they could be helpful when testing
a newer wifi driver.
