I think the question of whether to offer more information (safe distance or 
bounding box) depends on the type of abusers we expect. Do our typical abusers 
show a behaviour such that this API would help them? With enough determination, 
abusers could just post notes all over the place and get a decent idea of its 
shape anyway.

Perhaps even the simpler version of this API (just a point) doesn't need to 
exist just yet. We could leave it to clients to handle the errors (when posting 
notes) for now, and see what patterns emerge. If we don't see anything to give 
us cause for concern, we can offer this API and improve UX.
