I'd welcome a mixed bag style user group like a regular barcamp. I was at the Melbourne camp last year and I thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of subjects. It was like a tasting plate at a restaurant - some things are great and you want to try a bigger serving while others are less palatable (but all you've lost is 15-30 mins). The key thing is that you get exposure to a number of things outside of your normal area of expertise and interest. I like the idea of a user group where the idea is to bring in totally different subjects not just those related to the group.
I don't see any harm in starting one, what do you have to lose anyway? If it doesn't fly then the group will fizzle out.
