Here's the scoop..
Church friends go "way-out" IMHO..
My former Lt.Cdr had three kids 2 boys and a girl that
they had adopted at birth.. *About the start of jr.high
our AoG church had a dynamic youth pastor who felt strongly
that "Christian rock music" was a evangelic tool to use with
shapeing jr.High kids sunday morning.
Our friends were home schooling thier kids, and they were
involved in Royal Ranger and Missionettes, *But the "music"
offended their sence of "ethic" in the way they were chooseing
to raise their family as a solid traditional family.
In time, the left the church over the issue and eventualy
left OP207 for a simular group called "ALERTS"
I don't know all that much about the "Alert program" except it
seemes related to the teachings of one man(*Bill Gothard?) in
homeschooing issues, family lifestyles,and very conservitive Bible
doctrines.
Josh and I attended two meetings to demonstrate tyeing fishing flies
and it looked to me that it was a partnership of boys and dads doing a
"quasi" scout style uniformed program with constant indoctronation.
(My Opinion of course! Eat the Hay ect.)
*Example-
"So welcome back from our Alert Christmas break! Let's start
by shareing what you got as gifts?"
Josh and me were about to pipe up that we had gone to Hawaii
to surf the No.shore as an adventure, when... a boy spoke-
"I didn't get anything.. My Dad said that-"
"THAT's RIGHT! IN OUR HOME CHRISTMAS IS A DAY OF PRAYER..
CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS AND THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE OUT
WEIGHS ANY SECULAR HUMINIST OR CULTIC CELIBRATION OF GIVEING
OUT "PRESENTS"...
R-netters.. This purty much took the wind out of me.

We left and the conversation in the car 'tween my son
and I, agreed that Dad was an EXTREAMIST<G>
*Much Later-
Josh turned 17 and expressed and intrest in inviteing
the 17 year old daughter of my friend out for a snack
and chat in a coffee shop attached to a Christian bookstore
in our town and half way between our homes..
Josh and Jessica had gone to church togather as kids untill
the Jr.High flap. GMA #3911 needs to find some wholesome friends
who might help him raise his GPA and be a positive influence.
Josh suggested might might also be fun if they smelled good
and wore a skirt<G>
I "floated" the question by Jessicas Dad..
"Josh is wondering if Jessica would enjoy a snack at Cafe'
Divine and just talk"
*Here where 'ole A#1 needs help de-codeing a "message"
"Jessica has decided not to "date" boys so as to remain
free of emotional bagage untill proper COURTSHIP at her
Dad's descression." "She is also headed to Indiana for
finishing school"
I responded:
"I understand the value of Codes of Honor in young lifes
to avoid the regrets from mistakes in judgement later..
However, does this also include E-mail?"
Dad responded today:
"Josh is a excellent young man.. He may freely E-mail
me at anytime to talk about fishing,camping and hunting.."
*SO!!
Can someone clue me in as to what all that was about with
"finshing school" "Courtship" ect? You see, I notice it's the
year 2002!
