Some districts take a very aggressive approach to LTC training. Some do the
entire course in a long weekend (3-4 days).
Hey Brothers,
I got to say something here. It took me Nine months to complete LTC. I actually went and did every assignment hands on planned and carried out every activity and did not wax poetic on a single thing. My LTC classmates did not get that opportunity in the 6 month class. Sorry All,
I am of the belief that NTC is designed for the Long weekend, not the LTC. LTC needs time to soak in. I would forget most of the stuff in a long weekend and not have a single thing to show for it. If we wax poetic on our training are we doing our meetings the same way too? Do we want the boys to do that and have them be let down because we see this as merely a technicality or are we sincere enough to have the confidence in knowing that we can back up our training and abilities if the need came up to have to use it? Do we cram for our tests so we can get it over and done with while we tell the boys that they shouldn't do that with their schoolwork? What have we learned? And what have we taught? Will we remember what a clove hitch or a sheep bend is next week other than something you tie with a rope or a string? Probably knot. Will we remember all of the reading in the Book of Acts that we had to do if we put in there really fast and don't allow it anytime to soak in? Not likely. How many times have you heard it, a patrol song or yell that sounds really right the first time through but no one remembers it 20 minutes later?
Please take time to learn your materials. If you let your kids cram like that all the way through school, what would they have learned?
I just had to share this.
