Ah...don't be confused DJ

Adventure Rangers replaces Trailblazers and
Expedition Rangers replaces Challengers.

No need to send them to youth after Adventure Rangers. The older boy can still work on his GMA. Otherwise, the Expedition Rangers have merits and advancements designed for their age group.

I am sure the new programs are being field tested at selected outposts around the country. As for the final versions, we will see them when they are released. Adventure/Discover Rangers in March 2003 and Expedition Rangers in September 2003.

As for entrance into FCF a young man will have to complete the Trail To The Grizzly. Eight specific merits (Camping, Ropecraft, Firecraft, Cooking, Compass, Lashing, First Aid Skills, Tool Craft, and completing al these earns the Grizzly Trail FCF Merit Award) are required for entrance along with Explain the plan of Salvation and Explain the meaning of the Four Red, Four Gold, and Eight Blue points of the RR Emblem, be at least 11 years old and be recommended by the Outpost Commander. Completion of the above requirements will qualify the young man to attend a Frontier Adventure. Successfully complete that and you earn your Frontiersman pin.

It appears that the eight merits required for FCF entrance all have a Green Grizzly Paw on them and they are included in the lesson plans for Discovery Rangers. In other words if a commander follows the lesson plans the Rangers will earn the necessary merits to enter FCF.

Clear as mud :-)

Blessings,

Subject: Re: [RR] New Program

I was at a conference in Oklahoma in January where the national commander and several others from national staff were reviewing the new program.  It is all merit driven, the numbers of merits earned the higher up the trail to the GMA you earn.  The merits will be color coded and you will have to earn certain combinations to advance.  2 red merits and one orange and you get the first advancement.  Supposedly everything will be mapped out and put in plans to use in the regular outpost meetings so the boys (and commanders, too) can earn an advancement per quarter.  For Discovery Rangers (aka, Pioneers) this will allow them to earn all merits within the three year program, then they will advance to the Adventure Rangers (aka, Challengers).  Here, the boys will be able to earn the GMA at or by age 12.  After that I'm kind of confused.  Do we send them on their way to Youth, or involve them in leadership with Rangers and in a few years get them into FCF or can they go into FCF once they have the GMA?  Is there an age requirement for FCF?  I know so very little about FCF I don't know for sure the next step.

If you need more info, I have some, but didn't want to get too long winded.
