Yupperz!
I'm in a pickle..
As a Royal Ranger in a Scouter Uniform.. I still use RR ethics
and that has me constantly on the edge of "interfear'n" with the
emergeing politics of the new Cougar patrol of 8 young scouts.
I find I want to jump in and 'wise them up quick.. But also..
I suspect that a 49'r man with a white beard, who plays the Banjo
and prefers Blue Grass music to "GameBoy" isn't the best qualifyed
person to make sence to 12 year olds. ....sometimes!
I need to remain calm.. cool and READY!
*My job is called "Patrol adult advisor" and the duties are a
mirror of NTC's "patrol Advisors".. I watch and do not "Lead"..
yet- I 'chip in.. when needed to smooth the process of communication
and report back to other Adults on patrol progress...
Cdr.Bob brings up a point that I have "trouble with"..
I find it hard to invest time in boys who just want to act up
or play the fool. So much good can come from boys learning to
get along and self govern, that when the Outpost just goes loud
and crazy I want to walk out<G> *I may not be the best person
to bridge the canyon between boys life and the "mission statement"
so I have discovered...
I need to have HELP!

A kind word of praise goes a long way. Its

Yes.. *If I didn't have BOY Leaders, I'd domanate and bark.
(Larger issues along this line.. I'm work'n on)
> Sometimes I fell too tired to even stomp. I step back and let them run

(*This is the "Thing" that has me writeing this message, thanks for yur
Honesty in mentioning it..)
*So it seemes that like Teachers in a class.. We adults have "something
worthwile" to share to the *right audience that is primed to *learn..
That often isn't what we get.. I'm not sure RR is will ing to pay the
price to achieve a effective Patrol system, by shifting to embrace
Leadership as a worthy goal to teach... and learn by doing!
We'd have to choose to do that, and back Older Ranger Boys becomeing
our main source for leaders of the outpost.
*In T328 we have a influx of young boys starting.. and what we have
done is to form 3 patrols of 10 new boys.. Each has a "Mentor" patrol
of older seasoned scout campers to get them up to speed.. like teaching
them to ride a bike, then when *BALANCE hits to *Let go..
I got to tell you-
Troop 328 is prime for disaster IF the Scout guides do not do their job!
We are camping this weekend.. and have taught cooking and what to bring.
If you as a Royal Ranger joined the troop.. you may expect that there
would be extra cups to drink or extra food availible.. or mayby a spare
sleeping bag. You would be dead wrong<G> Last night we held a 3 hour
PLC (patrol leader council) and the older boys are saddled with the
task of bringing these new scouts up to "snuf" and wise'n them to
turning in the permission forms and showing up ready to roll..
(BTW- *All that administative effort is on the head of GMA #3911)
As "Adult Advisor" I checked with my two boy leaders and they *said..
they have it under 'control.. that *I personaly do not need to call
the patrol and wise them up, or go shopping.. as Scouts cook by patrol
buy their food and eat family style.
We'll see..
*Adventures in Camping!
