From a mother of an ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)  child for 17 years, who has been to workshops on this subject, substituted in the public schools & also special needs schools and have been full time with problem children in special classes. I've got a drawer full of facts on this subject. I have passed it along to his teachers over the years too. Everyone that works with children needs to be well educated.

So yes, I would consider  you having limited knowledge of the subject. So many people are ready to give their expert opinion, but should not unless they themselves live the world they are talking about in a personal way.

I have sit behind your type in church, turning around to make rude looks at my son as a toddler sitting in folding metal chairs on hard floors, in a very small room where we had services in our Pioneer church for over 2 hrs. I guess every ADD child you now see at Camp outs & other places, you must come to the conclusion that their behavior is due to poor discipline mixed in with Chemical imbalance. Your comments were very unfair & rude to those who have this problem. It Causes strife to those who read these emails. As a mother I am going to contact the overseer of this Ranger net & complain about this type of cruel judgement. I also was an ADD child that was not diagnosed back then. But I had a very big imagination & lived in a world of my own at times. So I believe it can be passed down.

I take great offense to this statement below. My husband is an Assembly of God pastor, we have family vacations for the kids, 6 flags in different cities every Summer, ski trips, camping, river tubing, canoeing, camparoma for father & son, deer & dove hunting, just a very close family. But we do have a 17 year old ADD son that is the apple of my eye. Very loving, caring, AB honor roll, Varsity football, sits with me at church with his arm around me, kisses me every night before bed. Don't tell me that my son has a lack of discipline or that he was not raised right. I have had my share of criticism from family members too that didn't know what they were talking about either. My son needs more love, patience from us & others, a little extra time spent to make sure he heard & understood what was asked of him.
I could think of alot worse than ADD for my son to be tagged with. He loves God too.

Subject: [RR] ADD, Chemical Imbalances, and The Rod.

I have had over the years, as have most of you, my share of Attention Deficit Disorder children in my outpost meetings. Have a double dose right now, in fact.

I have formulated my own theory on the matter, based upon four things: my limited knowledge of the subject, the Word of God, observation, and prayer.

Scientific research has shown results that support the claim made in Proverbs 17:22, that laughter doeth good like a medicine. Also, the same and other similar studies have proven that a good cry once in a while is beneficial, as well. Seems that crying releases endorphins and other chemicals into the brain and bloodstream. I remember reading an article back in the early eighties on the subject. Being that this was some time ago, my memory is cloudy on the issue, but I do seem to recall that the acts of laughter and crying were shown to have some sort of "cleansing" effect on the chemical balances of the brain.

The Bible gives several more examples that would seem to back these scientific studies. Here are a few:

Proverbs 22:15
Proverbs 20:30
Proverbs 10:13
Proverbs 13:24
Proverbs 29:13

For those of you who were able take the time to look these up, the correllation here is obvious.

It has been my observation that, in most examples to which I have been witness, children who are diagnosed with some kind of Deficit Disorder are reared in homes that lack in parental control and discipline. It has also been my observation that this has not been a signicant problem until recent years, and has risen on the wake of the recent deluge of false doctrines sown by those in the satan controlled media, government, private and public school system over the past several decades; whose primary purpose is to oppose any sound, biblical doctrine and teaching, and destroy every moral fiber that holds the basic family unit and society together.

Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that ADD could either be a result of chemical imbalance due to the lack of proper discipline in the home, or not a chemical imbalance at all, just poor behavior from not raising kids right.  This is the only explanation and conclusion that I can draw from the evidence and the only one I have found that is supported by God's Word.

Another example along the same lines: A couple of years ago, I was watching a TV newsmagazine. 20/20 or something like that. It was about phobias and syndromes. They had some new ones, like folks who were afraid that they had run over someone with thier car. These people could not function. OCB's. Obsessive-Compulsive Behaviors, they call them. These people were going through all kinds of expensive therapy for these disorders. God spoke to me and told me something about all that. IT IS JUST A LIE. A lie to make people believe they are in bondage. And if you believe it, then you are.

Let me tell you something. Satan HATES you. He hates God and he hates all that we stand for. He hates every ideal that is good and right. He hates the Word. So, since the Word is truth, he has to lie about it to destroy It's work in your life. For a lie to work, it has to look right, sound right, feel right, maybe even work right ... for a while. Have you read public text books lately? They are full of lies. A current world history textbook has thirty pages on Islam and almost nothing on Christianity. It claims that the first Thanksgiving was to thank the indians.

Every idea that is put forth in the Word of God satan will try to oppose. And, he will try to get you to oppose, if he can. And, for most of us, he will succeed, according to Jesus in Matthew chapter 24. This is why, folks, we must be very careful to measure everything that we hear against the one true standard we have, which is the Word of God. If you hear of anything that opposes it, DISMISS IT! IT IS A LIE! It might sound right, it might look right, it might seem right, but if you can not prove it with the Word of God, then it is wrong.

Please allow me to be very bold in saying that anyone who presents to you a view that opposes the ideals and precepts that are in the Word is an enemy of the Cross of Christ, whether they realize it or not, and should be regarded as such.

God encourages us to instill within our children the values, principles, and wisdom that is found in the Word. Furthermore, He directs us in no uncertain terms to be very structured, disciplined, and vigilant in doing so. This is true and correct. Read your Bible, it says so. Where people err, and the reason some are driven away, as alluded to earlier today in another post, is because sometimes we try to do this without love, patience, and understanding.

According to my Bible, and yours, there is a place in our homes and in our outposts for firm, structured, disciplined teaching and training. When we do this, and do not leave the other things undone, it will work. If we fail to do it- then, well, we have just plain failed!
