Or taking a sharrrrp knife, sneak up on the creature from bee-hind - while
the knife is held onto the skin, and keep driving it right under the face of
the tick.
That gives it a lift into eternity.

Other methods are holding a match to the critter backside until he backs
out.

Or circling the critter with rubbing alcohol or fingernail polish remover
