It gives me piece by piece insight into the soul of America.
I would probably be living with you fellows somewhere in the
US if not an overly nitpicking consulate lady would not have cancelled my
permit immediately after it was granted me.
The ink was still wet.

I would have to agree that my weapon of choice is a PowerPoint presentation but don't let the green grass fool ya. There will always be a need for the PFC Mitch Silvers' in our military. Regardless of how advanced our "smart" weaponry get. The same PFC who put his life on the line for my Father will have to do the same, for my son and yours.Sgt.Guerrero-I "Think" the public is being sold the image that the future American warrior will be a pile of twisted drone aircraft, or debri.. *i.e. the bloodless war- In the past.. Freedom was the issue we fought for, and sacrifice was the "cause" that joined us in raiseing Morale. The reteric coming from our leaders is not as clear as they think.. *My military experiance was in the Vietnam war- Then the reteric from the top was lofty and nobel to support and defend our allies against Communist agression. *My Fathers war in '44-'45 was to liberate peoples in Europe from facist totalerian rule.. Now my son, 18 is being told that we are in an endless War that will take us wherever the enemy raises his head.. We will do that with every techno-bomb and drone aircraft at our disposal! I know first hand that it takes a special person to dowhat some of our men and woman do. If and, it is a big if , a draft goes through it will still be business as usual.I tell you this, more can be accomplished with people who want to, than with people who have to.Gee- Apparently, a shift in mission logic has happened inside the ranks.. Up to 1973 the Draftee was "good to go" and effective motivators were employed by the USMC to turn raw recruits into "Talent".. What's missing today, is the cross section of America that would never enlist in the Marines, true.. But would shape the cadre to reflect a wider footprint of America. But I am not fundimentaly *Trying to fill the ranks of the Mil for warfare.. *I see the resources of the Defence department being shifted away from civilian infrastructure. Schools are reduceing days, cutting sports and the states are letting non-violent criminals out of jail.. *I susspect that "Guns and Butter" only are sustainable for the short term. GW Bush proposes an "Endless World tour of the Evil doers"..I do have a reply to your comment: "I have to wonder what "Duty" would pull me from my role as father?" The "duty" you refer to is protecting everything you hold dear, sir.Not true... but I understand your reasoning- *I feel ownership in America by my service.. *But I also know there are other places outside America that love freedom equal. There are Christians that object to the US agenda for moral reasons.. There is an element that fears the US becomeing the lone superpower, for absolute power often corupts absolutely..There are thousands of fathers around the world at this very moment that are missing their families. I hope and pray that wasn't meant the way I think itwas. Here's the way I mean it... Our Forefathers fought as citizen soldiers in the revolution for an agreed time, then returned to harvest crops and care for their farms and families. I beleve my "Duty" is first to GOD then, family- and then *self and finely-*Others- Those that choose another system listing "Country" higher than family have traded that away by choice, and are in service by agreement. In 1974 I was a sailor reservist on board the USS John R.Craig distroyer just back from Westpac.. There were crew on board that had enlisted as an alturnitive to the Draft, and were openly smokeing Dope while on duty! FBI and Naval Intelligence stormed on one morning and locked the crew on the ships messdeck and began to search the ship... The XO came in.. *Stood on a table and began to lecture "truth" to the crew. His version of his "Duty" held that the Navy was above God and family, that his *Life required him to purge "his Navy" of negitive dope smokers and non-hackers! I was not a dope smoker, or a career navyman.. *I knew however he was wrong. Under the UCMJ I could not object to his authority or his ethics. My "Duty" required me to submit to his authority over me. He was a domination expert. This situation was intolerable.. *To me- Tho..I did my "Duty" and ended my service *Honorably. *Now I hear things are "Better" Interesting<G> I read once " For those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor theprotected will never know."Yes, tho many who have never fought or will.. taste of freedom daily! -=A=-In closing Jason Guerrero not drafted, still served -----Original Message----- From: 45.5N122.7W [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 3:04 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [RR] *The "Draft" as a positive force for good- Last night I heard on PBS the description of a professional American armed force that does not welcome the *conscript soldier.. or Draftee- American military does not need anyone on duty who does not want to be there or shows a negitive attitude.. High Tech equipment needs trained professionals with hands-on experiance. Draftee's would be a encumberence.. and in abundence, a danger forceing "make work" or mindless tasks to keep them occupied<G> The current US Military is BIG BUSINESS! ..and business is winning war! *Yet key to any recent action, is the Reserveist- The media loves to show the reservist transitioning from civilian life to military duty with heart tugging images of Mom or Dad leaveing.. children. I have to wonder what "Duty" would pull me from my role as father? I susspect- *Reserveist pay is used to bankroll the family in the way a workingman would pick up an extra job to make the bills easier.. What about Gen-X and the comming wave of citizens out of current underfunded public schools? What about decaying cities, crime and a tight job market? How does a young person find their way in this world? Warfare in modern times is evolving into something never seen before known as the "Bloodless war" where our troops use tools to search or recon by remote control. Aircraft is being developed to substitute for pilots and withstand extream forces to successfully dogfight beyond the physical abilities of humans! In the recent Afgan war- *"global hawk" was deployed over targets to circle and stand watch for individuals on the ground.. and had the ability to target and hit them with force! *Who needs PFC Mitch Silvers! Who needs the raw recruit, that stormed Normandy in '44 or fought Tet '68? To me the future Vet parades will be made of GI dog faces soldiers, but only a few retiree's who can't talk about where they were, what they did.. or what went on in so many places they can't remember'em! *This thinking is so prominent, that the "Masters of War" now can sit back and play domination poker with video control. *Billions and BILLIONS of American dollars are invested... to build an exclusive machine of global war- New thought- ----------- Let's use those BILLIONS to better our society.. Let's take fresh minds and put them to work fighting crime and standing guard in our cities. Let's have them work in medical facilites and serve as Teachers in early childhood education.. Let's have them work on the "Infastructure" in differnt communities to broaden their horizion's and outlook and fuel the fire to learn! Let's make it manditory and universal so as to have the "privliged" mix with the "deprived".. *Let's make the parents THINK about where their kids are going and proud of what they are doing.. In closeing- *Elvis was drafted.. and served! -=A=- ===== *High MORALE is the Index of effective Leadership. --------------********+********-------------------- Morale raises belief of the Leader in the follower, of the follower in the Leader, of each in themself, and both in the .....cause! __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
