Duane and All,

I let my Trailblazer boys plan the last campout they went on. This is
what I told them,

We are going to plan a camp out. The date of the campout is Feb. 12 and
13. The place is Dos Pecos in Ramona.

Randy and Mike, you two are incharge of the food. You have to plan the
meals for the two days we will be there. That will be a dinner, a
breakfast, and a lunch, with a snack before we return to the church.
Give me the menue, and I'll provide the food.

Sean and Anthony, you two are incharge of the tents. You will need to
get the tents together, and make sure they are all in one piece and all
the parts are there for us to use.

Jared and Millard, you two are incharge of the kitchen equipment. You
two need to be sure all the kitchen equipment is available in the kitchen
box for Randy and Mike who are preparing the food.

Kevin and Joseph, you two are incharge of the other camping equipment
such as lanters, fire wood, propane and cooking stoves. You two need to
make sure we have light when its gets dark and a stove to cook on.

Those are the assignments boys. The leaders of each assignment needs to
get with the rest of the boys and work together to come to a solution. I
want you guys to plan this, I will provide what you need and help you if
you need it, but you ALL have to work to gether to make it happen. OK?

MAKE IT SO.....

All of the boys worked together and spent the rest of the evening
planning the three meals. They came up with a great menue that they all
agreed on. After they were done planning the meals, we went out and
played a game.

The following week the boys that were incharge of the tents got the boys
together and put up every tent that is in Outpost 238's "Ranger shed"
the boys responsible for the tents made a game and competition out of it
and all of the boys had a great time doing making sure everything was
there and all of the tents were complete and undamaged.

After that, the boy that were incharge of the kitchen equipment and
camping equipment, checked over all of the supplies and reported to me
what their finding were. (this only took about a fifteen minutes).

After that I had them lash a tower together using teh poles we normally
use for tripods.

During the meeting Sr. Commander walked by to check on us to see how
things were going. He was impressed. All of the boys were working
together and actually accomplishing something. This is not normal for my
boys, us ally they are trying to run in different directions or not
paying attention.

I guess the trick is, let them do it, but don't make it work, make it fun
(Wasn't there something like this taught in LTC or even NTC?) put a boy
or two incharge of each item that needs to be taken care of and let them
work together to come up with a solution.

The boys had a great time on the campout and are waiting to plan the next
one.
