Our Youth Pastor (since November) has declared "the bottom line is we have
to change Youth from Sunday, the question when". "All larger churches with
successful youth programs are on Wednesday, no sports etc......"
I know this issue has been discussed several times on rangernet and now I
wished that I would have saved all those posts. Be that as it may I am
here seeking information from groups that have faced the following
situation and what effect it has had on the Ranger and Metts programs in
your churches.
We are in the fact finding stage, met last night with the Youth Pastor,
Ranger/Missionette leaders and the Pastor. From the Ranger/Mettes groups
it would effect about 35 kids giving them a choice of attending Youth at
the local sports center or Rangers/Mettes at church. The Youth Pastor
feels that he can reach more "unchurched" kids by moving it to Wednesday
and out of the church setting. Out of the 35 afore mentioned kids only
about 7 of them currently attend youth so the Youth Pastor feels he will
not be drawing from the entire 35. He has also talked with other youth
pastors and has been told that in their churches the kids attend youth but
then attend Pow-Wow's and Retreats. We meet again in a couple of weeks.
Everyone was to remain open and pray about the situation. Thanks in
advance for your input, it is greatly appreciated.
Do we give our kids a choice?
Do the kids leave Rangers/Mettes to attend Youth?
Did the Youth Program explode?
Did it build strong Youth on fire for God and strong leaders?
If a Ranger/Mette makes the move to Youth, do you allow them to attend
Pow-wow's and retreats?
