*Love your questions *Spirit Rider!

Time is eraseing several cultureal understandings...

*When Royal Rangers began we were in a compareison race with
Boy Scouts as well as the Christian equilivilant's in Royal Ambassadors
and Christian Service Brigade..

The first "Powwow's" were around 1965-66 and generated the first patches
for events.. Terms in Scouting that were prevelant at that time were:
"Camporama" "Jamboree" "Camporee" ect...

Cdr.Johnnie desired a "western-adventure" flavor to Royal Rangers as a
theam for Ranger events... In doing so he wanted us NOT to replicate
those common terms in scouting for a "gathering of Rangers"......

It was a innocent time, and our understanding of western culture was
as much shaped by 60's TV as by a study of native americans and their
assemblies, and associated activities at a "Powwow"

*POWWOW: an american indian medicineman, a american indian ceremony,
as for victory in war, a social get-togather, a discussion of ideas..

Today... access to understanding the term has brought "Powwow" under
RR criticizum in the Northwest... *and I beleve the term "Rendezvou" might
shortly come under the same questioning.

However.. *Traditions are also worthy!
and majority rules! *Powwow! *Powwow!

POW....WOW!
